Applications were due on January 24, 2008. Around March 2008, 800 applicants were selected for an interview by CBS. Out of these 800, about 48 semi-finalists were selected to go to Los Angeles sometime during April 2008. From these semi-finalists, 18 contestants were selected to participate in the show between late June and mid-July 2008
This season, players sent to Exile Island will have a choice of receiving a clue to the location of a Hidden Immunity Idol or a comfort item.
